Welcome

Friends, welcome to The Book of Common Words.

Here we are exploring what it means to practice Christian spirituality in a way that makes us more human.

So, what is spirituality? Around these parts, we use that word to talk about our lived experiences of religion, belief, and faithful practice. Sometimes spirituality happens to us, sometimes we happen to spirituality. Where the two meet, that’s where our experiences are.

So, the lived experience of faith is what we’re exploring. That lived experience should make us more human, more justice oriented, more likely to act on our beliefs, more loving. We are complex creatures, and anything that takes away from that complexity makes us less human. Our exploration is going to get messy.

All this is done through a Christian lense here. I’m a Jesus person. Have been my whole life. These days, I find myself part of the Episcopal church. This is the type of Spirituality I practice. I invite you to practice your own spirituality here. Together we can become more human.
